Archives Notes
- Recent collections to the archives:
- From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: documentation from the Passionist Overseas Missions, sermons of Fathers Clement Pavlick, C.P. and John F. McMillan, C.P., as well as the Passionist seminary class notes and selected documentation of Father Timothy Fitzgerald, C.P.
- From West Hartford, Connecticut: Father Clement Kasinskas, C.P. contributed historical material describing his preaching ministry to Lithuanians.
- From North Palm Beach, Florida: twenty eight storage boxes. Three quarters of the collection documents the ministry of Father Raphael Amrhein, C.P. as a seminarian, preacher, master of novices, and Passionist leader from the 1950s till his untimely death in 2004. Assorted Passionist documentation makes up the remainder of the material.
- The Passionist Historical Archives is now in the process of digitizing its collection of record albums, reel to reel tapes, and audio tapes. Also, as completed, the archives website is making available the table of contents of the Holy Cross Province Publication The Passionist which was began in the 1940s. Please see our new Passionist resources in “Passionist Publications” and “Passionist History”—specifically United States Passionist membership statistics beginning in 1854 for both St. Paul of the Cross Province and Holy Cross Province.
- In December 2005 the Father Marcellus White Trust received a generous gift of $2,000 from his relatives. Established in 2003 by the Passionist Historical Archives, the Trust promotes the educational research and understanding of the historic and contemporary relationship of the Passionists in Hunan, China.
- Father Rob attended the American Historical Association Convention January 5-8, 2006. It was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- Father Rob was a guest lecturer on January 13, 2006 for two Asian Studies classes of Professor Kathleen Lodwick, Ph.D. at Penn State Lehigh Valley, Fogelsville, Pennsylvania.
- Father Rob and Father Gerald Laba, C.P. were co-presenters on January 20, 2006 at the Passionist Mission Fulfillment Enrichment Program held January 20-22, 2006 at Mt. Calvary Retreat House, Mandeville, Jamaica, West Indies. Their topic was “Leadership and the Vision of St. Paul of the Cross-Building Upon Our History, Moving Toward Our Future.” Approximately forty people attended.
- In January 2006, the archives facilitated a donation from the Passionists of North Palm Beach of their copies of The Sign Magazine (1921-1972) to the Cannon Memorial Library, St. Leo University, St. Leo, Florida.
- George G. Higgins and the Quest for Worker Justice(A Sheed & Ward Book. New York: Rowman & Littlefield, 2005.) by Father John O’Brien, C.P. was reviewed by Thomas E. Blantz, C.S.C. in The Catholic Historical Review 91 (October 2005): 875-876.
