Born Thomas M. Burke on June 21, 1897 in Greenwich Village, New York City, he went to St. Veronica’s School. He professed his vows January 23, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His religious name was Andrew. He was a good cook, tailor, electrician, carpenter, plumber, and understood heating systems. A sometimes outwardly gruff manner was balanced by a more than generous heart. He was most caring of the sick.
