Born Thomas Kirby on December 12, 1853 in New York City he was the son of James and Mary Kirby. He professed his Passionist vows on November 28, 1872 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For several years he was in the kitchen, a tailor, and infirmarian. Brother Kirby was sent to the new Passionist foundation in Buenos Aires, Argentina and arrived there on May 31, 1883. While there he was doorkeeper and sacristan. He died there two years later after being stricken with typhoid fever even after he was given care at the British Hospital in the city. His obituary was carried in the Weekly Messenger.
