Born John Feld on May 15, 1836 in Traves, Germany, he came as a young boy to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He often visited the monastery there where he did errands and brought bread and butter for newly arrived missionaries from Europe. He then entered the Passionists and professed his vows on November 1, 1855. His religious name was Boniface. There were few lay brothers so in addition to the manual work around the monastery he was also sent out to quest funds in Pittsburgh and later at other foundations. He suffered a heart attack which led to his death.
