Born in Morile, County Donegal, Ireland on June 29, 1837. For a short time he was in the British Army and then transferred to the British Navy where he had the opportunity to visit the Holy Land. He also came down with a tubercular infection. In 1864 he applied to the Passionists but was turned down because of ill health. He then became porter at the door of the Passionist monastery, West Hoboken, New Jersey for twenty years. During his spare time he made rosaries. A few years before he died he visited Ireland. In 1886 he was granted the privilege of a death-bed profession on November 13, 1886. He died the same day.
