Born on January 29, 1873 in New York, New York, John Rudloff was the son of James Rudloff and Catherine Bauer. During his early years John used to visit St. Michael’s Monastery in West Hoboken, New Jersey. He decided to enter the Passionists. After completing novitiate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he professed his vows on February 18, 1897. His first assignment was at the Passionist retreat in Normandy, Missouri. However, his health began to decline. It was feared he had cancer. He was then transferred to St. Joseph’s Monastery, Baltimore, Maryland. Brother Rudloff died of tuberculosis at St. Joseph’s Monastery, Baltimore. He is buried in the former Bonnie Brae Cemetery or present day Cathedral Cemetery in the Irvington, Maryland area.
