Born October 9, 1877, he worked for eight years before he entered the Passionists. He held jobs at a bottle factory and then at Thomas Evans Company, a lamp chimney manufacturer in Pittsburgh. He professed his vows on February 26, 1904 (possibly February 22 according to some documentation) and lived in Chicago, Illinois; Des Moines, Iowa; St. Paul, Kansas; and Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1933 went to Louisville, Kentucky. In December 1933 he went to St. Paul, Kansas and then to Detroit, Michigan. His last name is spelled “Hockendoner” in some documents.
