Born Stephen Rohe on February 13, 1872 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Charles Rohe and Ann Dougherty. After an early schooling he assisted his father who was a florist. At 22 years of age Stephen decided to enter the Passionists. He was professed a Passionist on June 16, 1895 and received the name Raymond. His first assignments were in West Hoboken, New Jersey and Baltimore where he was a cook. In 1901 he came down with tuberculosis which required him to be brought to St. Agnes Sanitarium in Baltimore. After a slight recovery he had a relapse and died in 1906.
