Born December 10, 1845 in Donegal, Ireland, he was the son of Patrick Carr and Mary Callaghan. His family arrived in the United States about 1865 and settled in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, which eventually became known as Northside, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He found employment on the Southside near the Passionist monastery. He entered the novitiate in 1868 and professed his vows on August 13, 1869. He was an infirmarian and tailor for most of his years as a Passionist brother. His brother, Brother James Carr also became a Passionist. He died in St. Louis on April 14, 1915.
