Born October 22, 1858 in Millertown County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Daniel Canaan and Mary McLoughlin. He professed his vows on June 13, 1875. Due to failing health he was sent to Mexico with Father Nilus, C.P. It was the hope that the milder Mexican climate would allow him to gain strength. He left Mount Adams, Cincinnati, Ohio for this assignment on March 11, 1884. He died in Tacubaya, Mexico on July 13. This was sudden. On July 10 he had suffered a hemorrhage from which he was unable to recover.
