Born Francis Murphy in Roxbury, Massachusetts on June 9, 1904, at fifteen he went to the Passionist Preparatory School, Baltimore, Maryland. When the new prep opened in Dunkirk, New York he went up there. In 1923 he entered the novitiate and professed his vows on August 15, 1924. His religious name was Daniel. After profession he was sent to St. Gabriel’s Retreat, Brighton, Massachusetts to pursue his studies towards ordination. There he contracted tuberculosis. He was sent to Mount Vision, New York in hopes that his health would improve. However he did not and it was there that he died.
