Born Edward McCue on May 29, 1874 in Coatbridge near Glasgow, Scotland, when he was ten years old he came with his widowed mother and only sister to the United States and their new home in Braddock, Pennsylvania. There he grew up as a frequent visitor with his family to the Passionist monastery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This inspired him to enter St. Mary’s Preparatory School, Dunkirk, New York and after completing studies there he entered the Passionist novitiate in Pittsburgh in the spring of 1890. On April 8, 1891 he professed his vows. His religious name was Marcellus. He was then sent for studies in Normandy, Missouri. He was assigned to St. Joseph’ Monastery, Baltimore, Maryland later in 1891. He was ordained a deacon on December 19, 1896. He died in St. Agnes Hospital. He had been sent there on March 8, 1897. He had kidney surgery on March 22 and did not recover.
