Born Michael Clifford on November 8, 1854, he was the son of John Clifford and his wife. Both were Protestants. He was born in Birmingham, Pennsylvania which became known as South Side. On May 10, 1858 he was baptized conditionally as he was a Methodist. He professed his vows on January 13, 1873 and died on April 23, 1874 at Holy Cross Monastery, Cincinnati, Ohio. He died from tuberculosis.
