Born April 14, 1851 in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the son of Laurence Alexander. His father was in the drapery business and had furnished several Passionist houses with such goods. His son professed his vows on August 13, 1869 and was ordained on May 20, 1875. He fell from a ladder after he was ordained and injured himself. He wanted to go to Rome. He was allowed to go there to venerate the Passionist relics. His father paid for the trip. However upon arrival it was found that he had tuberculosis and he returned to the United States. He was assigned to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and given permission to visit his family. He died in Canton, Ohio where he had been staying with his parents.
