Born Martin Buckley on August 24, 1906 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he attended St. Thomas College, Scranton. He professed his vows as a Passionist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1926. He was ordained on May 22, 1932 in Union City, New Jersey. After ordination he obtained a Master’s Degree in English Literature at The Catholic University of America and then taught English Literature in the Passionist Seminary College. Father Buckley was co-founder of the School of Dramatic Arts at the State University of New York, Fredonia, New York. He served two terms as Rector. One at Holy Cross Seminary, Dunkirk and another at St. Gabriel Monastery, Toronto, Canada. Another assignment was Catholic Chaplain and Director of the School of Religion at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.
