Born on November 26, 1852 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Francis Sotter and Appolonia Hoffman. He attended St. Michael’s in Pittsburgh and then attended the novitiate in Pittsburgh and professed his vows on March 25, 1873. On October 18, 1879 he was ordained a priest. He was a Vice-Master, Director of Students, First Director of the Preparatory College, Parish priest, Vicar, and Rector of St. Paul’s Monastery, Kansas. He died from uraemia poisoning complicated with apoplexy. He was stricken while giving a mission at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, New York.
