Father Barth was considered an amazing preacher and an amazing person to live with. In both cases it was not uncommon for him to have gadgets or props to entertain, and more important for him, to get some Gospel point across to the person or audience. He had strong devotion to St. Gabriel, the young Passionist saint so he wrote Boy in A Hurry. He likewise had a devotion to Maria Goretti who was from a Passionist parish in Italy. He also held various positions of leadership among the Passionists.
