Born John Finnegan on December 27, 1854 in Staten Island, New York, he was the son of John Finnegan and Anna Finnegan. He professed his Passionist vows on January 17, 1871 and received the religious name Clement. Sent to Rome October 1876 to complete his studies, he was ordained at the Lateran Basilica on April 6, 1878 along with Father Mark Moeslein. They both arrived back in the United States on July 1, 1880. Father Finnegan was sent with Father Timothy to Buenos Aires, Argentina where he arrived on December 14, 1880. But this time he was plagued by ill health and he died in April 1883 from what appeared to be progressive muscular atrophy which attacked the marrow of the spine.
