Born November 2, 1908 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Francis and Anna Gavin. He professed his vows on August 15, 1928 and was ordained on April 28, 1934. He was a missionary in Australia, parish priest and pastor at St. Ann’s Parish, Scranton, Pennsylvania as well as a member of the parish staff at St. Michael’s in Union City, New Jersey where he was from 1972 until 1982. He also was in Toronto, Canada.. He was a preacher of parish missions and devotions and also a superior. The renewal of the Second Vatican Council did not fully find favor with him as he believed it swept away many of the religious foundations he knew. Still, he adapted and realized that dedication to the Church and people of God were of ongoing value.
