Born November 26, 1860 in Pomeroy, Ohio, he entered the Passionists and professed his vows on November 27, 1876. He was ordained on April 27, 1884. In October 1889 he was sent to Louisville, Kentucky to the Passionist retreat which had been founded in 1879. He remained there until the new structure was built in 1905. He was a popular preacher of parish missions. He was particularly helpful in the diocese of Corpus Christi, Texas. As time went by he was afflicted with scrupulosity. He was able to adjust somewhat and return to the Louisville monastery which he had helped build. In his last years he would often take leisurely walks along Newburg Road and through the neighborhood.
