Born April 8, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of James and Nellie Keating. He attended St. Columba Grammar School and Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia. In 1938 he entered Holy Cross Seminary, Dunkirk, New York. He professed his vows in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1941. He was ordained on February 25, 1948 at St.Michael’s Monastery, Union City, New Jersey by Bishop James McNulty. Father Lombard completed canon law studies at the Lateran University, Rome in 1951. Upon his return to the United States he became professor of canon law in the Passionist Monastic Seminary and assisted in local parishes when needed.
