Born on November 17, 1878 at Valledomo, Sicily, Italy, he was the son of Peter Teresi and Alfonsa Pollina. When he was ten years old his family moved to Buffalo, New York He studied under the Jesuits at Canisus College for a short time and then decided to enter the Passionists. He entered the Passionists and professed his vows on October 23, 1903. He then pursued studies in monasteries west of the Ohio River and was ordained a priest on May 21, 1910 in West Hoboken, New Jersey. He was assigned to St. Anthony’s Church, West Hoboken. This was primarily an Italian speaking congregation. Since he was of ill health there was some consideration of sending him to Italy in order that he regain his strength. Instead he went to Baltimore, Maryland.
