Born Timothy Reilly on January 30, 1855 in County Galway, Ireland, he was the son of Patrick Reilly and Mary McCormack. His family came to the United States in 1875 and he enrolled as a student at St. Joseph’s College, Bardstown, Kentucky. He professed his vows on December 8, 1880. His religious name was Joachim. After study at Dunkirk, New York and West Hoboken, New Jersey, he was ordained there on October 28, 1885 by Bishop Loughlin of Brooklyn, New York in the absence of Bishop Wigger of Newark, New Jersey. Father Reilly died suddenly from tuberculosis at West Hoboken on June 17, 1886.
