Born March 12, 1928 he went to Holy Cross Seminary, Dunkirk, New York. He professed his vows on August 15, 1949 and received the name Francis. He was ordained on April 28, 1956. He was assigned to Toronto, Canada and then went to the Philippines as a member of the second group of missionaries. This was a difficult and trying assignment. Travel was by water and over land. After twenty-one years there Father Hanlon returned to the United States because of ill health. Still, he had enough energy to preach and gained strength anew when volunteers were sought for the new Passionist foundation in India. After a short time he had to return and lived at Holy Family Monastery, West Hartford, Connecticut. Father Morgan Hanlon, C.P. is his brother.
