Born Hugh Flannigan on March 29, 1846 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he professed his vows on September 29, 1862. His religious name was Joseph. He was ordained on February 20, 1869 and was entrusted with the care of those students who desired to be Passionists. After this position as professor he was appointed pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Dunkirk, New York. After some time he was appointed to the community at Cincinnati, Ohio. He was seized with a epileptic stroke after returning home from a retreat. After an illness he died in Cincinnati.
