Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 14, 1895, he eventually decided to enter the Passionists. After a short time in the Preparatory School at St. Mary’s, Dunkirk, New York he made his novitiate at St. Paul’s Monastery, Pittsburgh taking his vows on August 3, 1913. He was ordained a priest on December 21, 1921 in Baltimore by Bishop Paul J. Nussbaum, C.P. After a short time as a preacher of parish missions he was assigned as a seminary professor. When the new monastery in Jamaica, New York opened Father Stevens was named the first religious superior He died suddenly after a ruptured appendix and was held in high esteem by the members of the province.
