Born July 29, 1831 in Stallanello, Republic of Genova, Italy his name was Francisco Bonelli. At nineteen he entered the Passionist novitiate at Monte Argentaro, Italy. He professed his vows on May 6, 1851. After ordination on September 2, 1854 by Cardinal Patrizzi at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome, on Christmas Day 1860 he arrived in the United States on the SS. Fulton. Eight other Passionists made the trip. In the 1863 chapter, the first of St Paul of the Cross Province, he was elected Master of Novices, but he protested and someone else was elected. He was director of students. Elected rector of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1878, he was elected in 1881 as a second consultor of the province. In 1886 he went to Mexico with Father Thomas Stefanini, C.P. In 1890 he was master of novices in Mexico. He was also acting provincial of the foundation in Mexico. He died in Toluca Mexico on March 16, 1893 as a result of pneumonia.
