Born Leo S. Nestor on December 7, 1909, he was contemplating a possible scholarship to the Notre Dame School of Journalism. He decided to enter the Passionists. He professed his vows on August 15, 1930. His religious name was Matthew. He was ordained on May 22, 1937. He was a novena preacher when the novena to St. Paul of the Cross and St. Gabriel attracted many at Jamaica, New York. He was a retreat master in several retreat houses. He was a Colonel as a military chaplain and served in the Pacific. He was rector of Scranton, Pennsylvania and for the last twenty years of his life worked as a fundraiser in Rexdale, Ontario, Canada. He lived in Jamaica, New York as well before his death.
