Born James Sullivan on March 30, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of James and Elizabeth Sullivan. The family lived in Sheridan, Pennsylvania. He went as a young boy to the devotions at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania monastery. He professed his vows on August 15, 1933 in West Springfield, Massachusetts. His religious name was Maurice. He was ordained on April 23, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland by Archbishop Michael J. Curley. He was a military chaplain in 1945. He was in Panama and the South Pacific. He saw action in Korea from 1950 until 1953. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Monastery Parish staff in Jamaica, New York with Father Owen Doyle, C.P. Father Sullivan lived in Pittsburgh as a preacher of parish missions. He was a member of the St. Michael’s Monastery community, Union City when it closed and then he moved to Jamaica, New York where he took on various apostolates in the community. He loved gardening. He also loved horse racing. In his last years he lost his hearing.
