Born August 18, 1897 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Alex Kelly and Catherine Maley. He completed elementary school at St. Canices and then went to the Passionist Seminary, Baltimore, Maryland. He professed his vows on September 15, 1916 in Pittsburgh and was ordained on January 21, 1923. He was a preacher of parish missions and novenas. In his early years he was a professor in the Passionist seminary then for six years was on the staff of Sign Magazine. He was a military chaplain in the South Pacific, Europe and Korea. He then worked as a hospital chaplain at Veterans Hospitals. He died at Bon Secours Hospital, Baltimore.
