Born Ignatius McMurray in Scranton, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1899, he was the son of John and Barrett McMurray He went to the Passionist Preparatory College in 1916 and on September 20, 1921 was professed in Pittsburgh with the name Patrick. He studied at Scranton; West Hoboken, New Jersey; Baltimore and then back again to Union City (changed from West Hoboken in 1925). He was ordained by Bishop Walsh on June 2, 1928. Most of his life he was a preacher of parish missions and retreats to religious. He was also director of students, and vice-rector. For several years before his death his health began to fail. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
