Born July 18, 1886 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of John and Josephine Grasshoff. He professed his vows on June 2, 1904 and was ordained on June 22, 1911. He served as a military chaplain in World War I in France. After that he was a professor of sacred eloquence in Holy Cross Province from 1930 until 1943. He was a member of the retreat house team at Holy Cross Center, Cincinnati, Ohio in the 1940s as well as a member of Our Lady’s Retreat House, Warrenton, Missouri in the 1950s. He died at the St. Joseph Hill Infirmary, Eureka, Missouri where he had been living in retirement for many years.
