Born September 9, 1907 in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Thomas and Anna Harrity. After a short time his family moved to Scranton, Pennsylvania where he received his elementary and high school education. After graduation he entered St. Thomas College. Once he completed his studies he entered the Passionist novitiate and professed his vows on August 15, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was ordained on May 22 1932. He was a professor at Holy Cross Seminary, Dunkirk, New York for some time and then pursued graduate studies at The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He then returned to Dunkirk where he resumed his position as professor of philosophy. He showed a great love for St. Thomas Aquinas. He also had a tremendous respect for the magisterium of the Catholic Church especially as it pertained to Christian doctrine and morality. He also was librarian. He was a popular confessor.
