Born Bill Purdon on November 11, 1904, he professed his Passionist vows on August 15, 1930 and received the religious name Thaddeus. He was ordained on May 22, 1937. He served as a parish priest at St. Gabriel’s Parish, Brighton, Massachusetts and in the 1960s was pastor of New Bern, North Carolina. He was also vice-rector at St. Ann’s Monastery, Scranton, Pennsylvania and St. Michael’s Monastery, Union City, New Jersey. He was the first rector of Holy Family Monastery, West Hartford, Connecticut when it opened in 1951. He was also a hospital chaplain at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.
