Born George Stockmeyer on June 15, 1916 in Forestville, New York, he attended Holy Cross Seminary, Dunkirk, New York and professed his vows on August 15, 1937 and was ordained on May 30, 1945. He was then sent on for graduate studies. His master’s thesis was “The Syntax of Finite Verbs in the Letters of Pliny the Younger” The Catholic University of America, 1948. He was a professor of Latin and Greek at Holy Cross Seminary for many years. Father Stockmeyer later was assigned to parish work at St. Michael’s, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Once that assignment was concluded he undertook studies in pastoral counseling and then was assigned as hospital chaplain at Creedmoor Hospital, Queens, New York. He resided in Jamaica, New York. After many years at Creedmoor he was assigned to the community at West Hartford, Connecticut.
