Born Joseph Leitsch on January 25, 1902, he professed his vows on October 9, 1921. His religious name was Valentine. He was ordained on December 22, 1929. He was first assigned as a professor at Normandy, Missouri in the Passionist Preparatory Seminary. Later he was assigned to Sierra Madre, California where he was a member of the retreat house staff. He served also as director of retreats. Other positions included vicar of Detroit, Michigan and rector of Cincinnati, Ohio. Finally he returned to Missouri where he started the retreat movement in Clayton, a suburb of St. Louis. He was also a preacher of missions and retreats. He was popular among sisters. He assisted as chaplain at the Little Sisters of the Poor, Detroit, Michigan. He suffered a heart attack on April 20, 1964.
