Born March 16, 1846 in an Irish family, he first considered entering the Trappists but then changed his mind and entered the Passionists. He professed his vows on February 5, 1868. He was ordained on January 1, 1871. Father Carolan was appointed Vice-Master and later appointed Director. Eventually he was assigned to Argentina and served there for fourteen years. Father Carolan lived at Salto, which was abandoned after some time due to lack of solitude. He was a superior in Argentina and was able to quest financial support through alms. He died in 1898.
