Born Stanley Campbell on July 7, 1879 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. At 19 years old he passed the examination law board but because of his young age was not admitted to the state bar. He entered the Passionists in 1899 and professed his vows on May 8, 1900. He received the name Walter. He was ordained in Scranton, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1906. After ordination he was sent on for higher studies in Rome, Italy. He returned from Rome, preached parish missions and in 1913 was appointed Lector. For many years he had suffered from a spinal disease. He died in West Hoboken, New Jersey while preparing for a Pontifical Vesper service.
