Born on April 27, 1905 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, his family later moved to Norwood, Massachusetts. He professed his vows on November 20, 1927 and was ordained on December 20, 1931. In October 1942 Father Praino entered the Navy and left that service on August 14, 1953 with the rank of lieutenant Commander. During those years he was stationed at Glenview, Illinois, on the U.S.S. Alabama, at Bethesda, Maryland, at Kodiak, Alaska, the Chelsea Naval Hospital, Massachusetts and the Naval Station Colo Solo, in the Canal Zone. In 1954 Father Praino re-entered the Navy and became chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Northport, Long Island.
