Born on March 8, 1875 he was a devoted layman. He was porter at the front door of St. Gabriel’s Monastery, Brighton, Massachusetts. He began to work at the monastery after he made a laymen’s retreat and became identified with the spiritual life of the monastery. He professed his vows as a Passionist on January 4, 1952 while on his death bed.
