In Diebus Illis . . .
The following missive was sent by then-Provincial Fr. Stanislaus Grennan, CP to Fr. Sidney Turner, doctoral candidate in Canon Law and Priest-in-Charge of our House of Studies for Graduate Students at Catholic University, Washington, D.C. The content speaks for itself but what would the Archives not give to know Sidney’s reply. Anyone having any knowledge of Sidney’s answer to Stanislaus—please contact the Archives!!

Dear Father Sidney:
I have received a complaint from Father General to the effect that our Students in Washington are going out at night and attending boxing matches at the University. Personally, I believe it is a vicious calumny and I want to run it down. I want a true statement from your Reverence and an explanation if, at any time, you or your companions were out at night or did attend boxing matches. I want to let Father General have the truth and not misrepresentations and exaggerations. Put nothing else in your answer, but this matter, so that if I think it advisable, I can send your letter to Father General. With all good wishes,
Devotedly,
(s) Stanislaus C.P.
