by Fr. Rob Carbonneau, C.P.

During Lent Catholics frequently reach for their Bible to sustain their faith. Many find Sacred Scriptures a balm for the heart and spirit. More often than not the Scriptures add depth to regular parish devotions such as Stations of the Cross, novena prayers, or the simple gesture of lighting a devotional candle.

Lent 2003 is a perfect opportunity to be reminded that our present Catholic relationship and understanding with Scripture is a twentieth century experience. These seven essays, “A Lenten Bible Story for Catholics,” written for publication each week of Lent 2003 in the bulletin of St. Joseph’s Monastery Church Parish, Baltimore, Maryland is part of the ongoing educational outreach of the Passionist Historical Archives, St. Paul of the Cross Province.
